Why Make Your Own French Vanilla Creamer At Home?

Store-Bought Creamer vs Homemade

At this point, we all know that many pre-made, or store-bought coffee creamers contain ingredients that most of us would rather leave out of our food and drinks.

The most popular “non-dairy creamers” contain ingredients like: hydrogenated oils, dipotassium phosphate (preservative used for stabilizing non-dairy products to prevent coagulation) , micellar casein, monoglycerides, diglycerides (emulsifiers), cellulose gel/cellulose gum (thickener, stabilizer), carrageenan (thickener), artificial flavors, acesulfame potassium (zero calorie sweetener).

These products have all been deemed safe in the amounts they are presented on our grocery store shelves, but I’d rather stick to the natural ingredients I can control in my own recipes.

This easy recipe uses things you probably already have in your own kitchen, like milk, cream, vanilla, and sugar.

Some recipes use sweetened condensed milk, but I prefer to make it this way, which essentially is making my own sweetened condensed milk using milk and cream with my own sweetener!

Customize Your Own Coffee Creamer Flavors

Homemade Vanilla coffee creamer is an extremely versatile flavor. Once you have the hang of making this basic recipe down, you can customize your own different flavors for any season!

FAQ’s for this French Vanilla Creamer Recipe

Can I use non-dairy milk?

Yes! This recipe makes an extremely versatile base that can be adjusted to your liking. Swap out the dairy for your favorite non-dairy milks like almond milk or coconut milk to customize it to your preferences.

How can I reduce the sweetness of this creamer?

If you’d like to reduce the sweetness, simply use less sweetener. Consider adding a pinch of salt to the French vanilla creamer to enhance the sweet flavors, while using a bit less maple syrup or cane sugar.

What’s the best way to froth this creamer?

Frothing a creamer works best when the creamer is heated up. Before you brew your coffee, heat the creamer in a steamer, on the stove, or even for 30 seconds in your microwave.
If you have a milk frother, froth the creamer alone in a coffee cup, before pouring it over your brewed coffee.

Can I use vanilla beans to make this recipe?

Absolutely yes! I wrote this recipe to be as accessible to anyone as it could be, which is why it uses vanilla extract for the vanilla flavor. However, if you have access to quality vanilla beans, this recipe would only be better using them!
To use vanilla beans, split one pod lengthwise before scraping out the seeds. Place the pod into the milk mixture while heating. After turning off the heat, allow the vanilla pod to steep in the hot creamer mixture until cool. Once cool, remove the pod for storage, and enjoy!

Making your own creamer at home is a great idea to control your ingredients, customize flavors for the seasons, and learn a new skill to save you a trip to the store!
